Malinga’s ability to score tries from seemingly hopeless positions on the
field made her a first choice on the wing for both head coaches of the
Springbok Women and Springbok Women’s Sevens rugby squads. Whether
it is at the fast-paced sevens venues of the world or the more traditional
fifteens stadiums, Malinga will almost always score when given the ball in an
attacking position. Blessed with real acceleration (she was a track athlete
after all) or in more cramped environments, the Standerton speedster
combines the power of a leg drive and a hand-off with the speed to go
around people, while she in recent years, added a wicked sidestep to her
array of attacking weapons. She formed part of the historic first Rugby
Sevens squad to participate in the Olympics at the Paris 2024 Games
