Born in Portsmouth, England, Amesbury is a graduate of the University of Manchester and plies his trade as a wing-cum-fullback. Educated at Lord Wandsworth College in his early days, Amesbury began his professional career at London based side Harlequins before linking up with Newcastle. After two seasons in the North, Amesbury joined Sale Sharks.
After a 2 year spell at Sale, the winger joined Bristol in the Championship and completed a 4 year stint at the club, retiring at the end of the 2016/17 season.
