Ian Evans

4th Oct 1984 2.04m/116kg No 4 Lock

The South African born lock has been the epitome of quality and consistency for both Wales and the Ospreys for the last number of years.

Evans came through the youth academy at Pontypridd RFC, before joining Swansea RFC. Evans’ performances for Swansea alerted the Ospreys, who quickly sealed his signature in 2005.

Evans made his debut against Munster in 2005, quickly followed by his Heineken Cup debut against Leicester Tigers in 2006.

Evans made his Welsh debut against Argentina in 2006, a game in which he scored, and has since won twenty Welsh caps.

A somewhat surprise inclusion in the 2013 Lions squad, he ended the tour having represented the side in 4 tour games, but unfortunately failed to make the test side.

Based on medical advice, Ian Evans has regrettably had to retire from professional rugby following fifteen years in the sport.

The 32 year-old suffered an incapacitating knee injury which prevents him from training and from playing professional rugby.

Evans made thirty-three appearances for Wales and was selected for the British & Irish Lions tour to Australia in 2013.

The lock made 129 appearances for Ospreys, before joining Bristol in 2014, where he made 29 appearances.

At the end of the 2016/17 campaign he decided to hang up his boots.
