Obstacles in life can break you or in the case of Nadine Roos, mould you into
a determined, strong-willed and highly disciplined athlete who literally has the
world at her feet. Her athletic ability gave Roos, raised by her grandmother
after being abandoned by her mother, a scholarship to university where her
decision to start playing sevens rugby turned out to be a career defining
moment. Rated by peers and pundits as one of the very best in both fifteens
and sevens rugby, where she became an Olympian in 2024, the University
of Pretoria post-graduate in Education and Economics brings humility and
professionalism to the women’s game, along with a genuine fan base that
attracts people from all walks of life. Her ability to play in numerous positions
in the backline makes her even more valuable to the squad and she has started
tests at scrumhalf, flyhalf, wing and fullback, where she made her debut in
2021. The current SA Rugby Women’s Player of the Year played in the 2018 and
2022 Rugby World Cup Sevens as well as the 2022 Rugby World Cup in New
Zealand and had a stint playing professionally in the Japanese Sevens League.
