Halftime here at Ellis Park, with Griquas leading the Golden Lions by 19-15. Griquas started the game very strong putting a lot of pressure on the Lions which lead to a number of penalties and a try from Rocco Jansen. The Lions where then able to get back in the game with strong attacking displays from Andries Coetzee and Warren Whiteley. Two tries in quick succession brought them back within one point but a late penalty from Gouws Prinsloo gave Griquas better cushion going into the 2nd half.

Griquas give away a penalty from the restart allowing the Lions to gain territory back in the Griquas half. Andries Coetzee puts a kick through and Anthony Volmink runs on to it to score Lions 2nd try. Marnitz Boshoff is unlucky with the conversion.

Lions get their first try of the game through prop Jacques van Rooyen and Marnitz Boshoff adds the extras to reduce the deficit. After increased pressure on Griquas the Lions decided to kick for touch instead of the posts and after many phases were able to break down the Griquas defence.

The Lions really struggling to cope with the intensity of Griquas and now find themselves down by 13 points. A great chip and chase from Rocco Jansen combined with lack luster defence allows Griquas to take a deserved lead. Gouws Prinsloo takes his tally to 11 points for the day so far.

Both teams getting on the scoreboard early through the boot of Marnitz Boshoff and Gouws Prinsloo. Lions absorbing much more pressure on their line than they expected so early in the game and now trail Griquas by 3 points.

Good afternoon and welcome to Ultimate Rugby's coverage of this Currie Cup clash between MTN Golden Lions and Griquas. The Lions will hope to claim the full five points from this final league fixture to ensure they finish up 3rd in the table. Griquas are set to finish bottom of the table and a victory today would not change their standing so coach Pote Human has named a second string side, where as the Lions have named a very strong team to maximize their chances. The Lions are coming off the back of two previous round defeats and Griquas have not recorded a victory in the Currie Cup since round one.
