Duane Vermeulen named as new Bulls captain

According to a report in sowetanlive.co.za, World Cup-winning Springbok number 8 Duane Vermeulen has been named Bulls captain after the departure of Burger Odendaal.

Vermeulen, who boasts 54 Springbok and 123 Super Rugby caps, is no stranger to the captaincy duties, having led his country as well as the Stormers in the past.

“It is always a privilege to play a game of rugby and it is one I never take for granted‚” he said.

“It’s a massive honour to be appointed captain of this group‚ especially at this exciting time when so much is expected from us. A huge thank you must go out to Jake (White) and the management team for trusting me with this immense privilege.

"This year has been a difficult one for many South Africans but rugby will return and when it does the Bulls will be ready to make you proud.”

Vermeulen will be assisted by flanker Arno Botha and outside back Gio Aplon as deputies.
