Hanrahan sinks Benetton with superb drop-goal
- 1161
Munster had a close call at the Stadio Comunale Di Mingo on Saturday in their clash with Benetton Rugby as they stared defeat in the face before fly-half JJ Hanrahan pulled off a fantastic drop-goal under pressure to seal a cheeky victory for his side.
With 80 minutes up on the clock, the Italians led their Irish opponents by a single point – 16-15. Munster, however, still had possession and worked themselves into an appropriate field position to yield some light at the end of the proverbial tunnel.
Hanrahan took full advantage of the opportunity and sent his side into elation while simultaneously breaking the hearts of the Benetton men.

"We played against a very good side tonight," Munster head coach Johann Van Graan said. "We started the game really well, got some momentum and scored two good tries.
"But it was a big breakdown battle. Benetton worked very hard. We stuck to it right until the very end and for Munster, it is never over until the final whistle goes.
"What happened at the end (when Hanrahan scored his last-gasp drop-goal) is in our armoury.
"When you get to a three-point game, at the final play of the game, you need a good maul as well as good composure. We had that.
"So for JJ to get that score was just marvellous."
