The Hurricanes are pleased to confirm the signing of six-time Super Rugby champion Bryn Hall ahead of the 2027 Super Rugby Pacific season.
Hall brings a wealth of success to the Hurricanes, bolstering the club’s status as defending Super Rugby Pacific champions after claiming a title in each of the six years he spent with the Crusaders between 2017 and 2022.
The veteran halfback returned to New Zealand earlier this year following four seasons in Japan Rugby League One and is eager to add to his Super Rugby credentials with the Hurricanes.
“I’m really excited to get down to Wellington to join the Hurricanes next season,” Hall said.
“I loved the way the club played this year with their attacking brand of footy. I can’t wait to be part of that and look forward to contributing in whatever way I can.”
Prior to his time with the Crusaders, Hall spent four seasons at the Blues and has a collective total of 123 Super Rugby appearances to his name.
He also made his 100th appearance for North Harbour in his first match since returning from Japan earlier this year, a decade after helping guide the province to a Mitre 10 Cup Championship title.
While abroad, Hall played two seasons each for the Shizuoka Blue Revs and Kubota Spears, and featured in back-to-back finals with Kubota in 2025 and 2026.
Internationally, he has represented the Māori All Blacks eight times, received a call-up to the wider All Blacks squad for their 2018 test against Japan, captained the New Zealand U20 team to the 2012 Junior World Championship final, was a member of the 2010 New Zealand Schools side, and featured for the Barbarians and World XV.
Hurricanes head coach Clark Laidlaw is thrilled to have Hall’s vast experience within his playing ranks as the club prepares to defend its Super Rugby Pacific crown.
“With a space available at halfback, we felt there was some room for experience there alongside our younger No 9s,” Laidlaw said.
“We actually looked at Bryn a couple of years ago, but he ended up going back to Japan. For him to join us now to compete for a starting role and provide that experience to our younger halfbacks will really add to the squad.
“Everybody can see how well he has played for an outstanding North Harbour side. He’s really playing well. His kicking and distribution and all-round game has been super solid in the NPC.
“We really look forward to bringing him in, not only to play well and compete well, but to share his experiences around the club and with players and coaches. We’re really excited for him to join us and add to our depth in that position.”
