2. Keven Mealamu


Kevin Mealamu retired as the most capped Super Rugby player with 175, 164 of which with the Blues and 11 with the Chiefs. 

Wyatt Crockett has since broken his recorded


3. Owen Franks

Franks started the 2017 Super Rugby season with 123 Super Rugby caps to his name all of which coming with the Crusaders.

4. Brad Thorn

Brad Thorne played 108 Super Rugby matches 92 of which with the Crusaders and 16 for the Highlanders.

5. Sam Whitelock

Sam Whitelock started the 2017 Super Rugby season with 101 Super Rugby caps to his name and having recently taken over the Crusaders captaincy the 29-year-lock will have plenty of time to improve his total

6. Jerome Kaino

Kaino has made over 100 appearances for the Blues and has been a stellar performer for the Blues since debuting in 2004.

7. Richie McCaw

The ex-Crusaders captain made 145 appearances for the Christchurch-based side. 

8. Kieran Read

Read started the 2017 Super Rugby season with 133 Super Rugby caps to his name. 

9. Justin Marshall

Marshall made all 105 of his appearances for the Crusaders between 1996-2005

10. Dan Carter

Carter represented the Crusaders for over a decade making 141 Super Rugby appearances

11. Doug Howlett

Howlett made 114 appearances for Blues scoring a record 56 tries in the competition.

12. Ma'a Nonu

 

 Ma'a Nonu played for the Hurricanes, Blues and Highlanders during his  Super Rugby career. The lethal centre collectively made 160 Super Rugby appearances with 126 of those for the Hurricanes.

13. Tana Umaga

Umaga made 122 appearances for the Hurricanes before moving abroad to work as a player-coach in 2008, he returned to New Zealand to play for the Chiefs making a 7 further appearances.

14. Ben Smith

The Highlanders' co-captain started the 2017 Super Rugby season with 120 Super Rugby caps, all coming with the Highlanders.

15. Mils Muliaina


The ex-All Black made 49 appearances for the Blues and 61 for the Chiefs

16. Anton Oliver

Oliver made 127 appearances for the Highlanders during his 11 years at the club.  

17. Wyatt Crockett

 Crockett has made over 174 Super Rugby appearances for the Crusaders making him the most capped Super Rugby player.

18. Ben Franks

 Ben Franks made 85 appearances for the Crusaders before joining the Hurricanes in 2013, he made a further 45 Super Rugby appearances before  joining London Irish at the end of the 2015 season.

19. Chris Jack 

 Chris Jack made 110 Super Rugby appearances for the Crusaders during his two stints with the Christchurch-side

20. Rodney So'oialo

Rodney So'oialo spent 10 years at the Hurricanes playing 101 Super Rugby matches for the Wellington side.

21. Piri Weepu 

Weepu made 84 Super Rugby appearances for the Hurricanes and 40 for the Blues in a Super Rugby career that lasted 10 years

22. Carlos Spencer

 Spencer made 108 Super Rugby appearances, mostly for the Blues(97), but he ended his career at the Lions making 11 appearances as a player coach

23. Conrad Smith

 Smith spent his whole Super Rugby career at the Hurricanes making 126 appearances scoring 26 tries
