Springbok pair cleared to join training camp

Munster have confirmed that centre Damian de Allende and lock RG Snyman have been cleared to travel to South Africa.

The pair will continue their respective recoveries under the care of the Springboks’ medical team after they suffered burns in a fire-pit accident earlier this month.

They have been regularly seeing a specialist over the past couple of weeks in Ireland.

The World Cup-winning pair were named in Jacques Nienaber’s Springbok squad for the upcoming B&I Lions series.

Munster confirmed in a statement on Wednesday that both De Allende and Snyman will be allowed to travel to South Africa and link up with the Springboks’ training camp in Bloemfontein this week.

“Both players had good reviews with the specialist this week having sustained burns in an accident earlier this month,” a statement from Munster read.

“De Allende and Snyman will both travel back to South Africa this week.”

Earlier this month, Springbok coach Jacques Nienaber spoke of the pair's injuries saying:

"I've spoken to both of them and they are fine, so that is the most important thing and their families are fine," said Nienaber.

"Will they be able to play against Georgia? Currently, as I'm sitting here, if everything goes according to plan, yes I think they would.

"The challenge is if they get an infection or if for instance there's some other medical reason they can't fly to us as soon as possible then obviously it makes it a little more challenging. I think in terms of that we will have to be adaptable."
