A classy second half performance saw the Crusaders hammer the Highlanders 40-20 at Forsyth Barr stadium on Saturday morning.
The Landers headed into this game with a decent record against the Saders, winning two out of their last three but it wasn't meant to be today.
The Crusaders have now won six of their last eight completed Super Rugby away matches against fellow New Zealand opposition.
Here is the five players that really stood out today:
Will Jordan (Crusaders)
Before the game kicked off there was a lot of talk surrounding Will Jordan and especially his switch to the wing in this encounter. The 22-year-old put in an overall stellar performance this morning as he made 125 metres with the ball in hand, beat eight defenders, had three clean breaks and scored two tries.
We also need to mention that he made 100% of his tackles which is quite outstanding.
Dillon Hunt (Highlanders)
It was a straight shoot out between Hunt and Smith today for this position, but we had to back the loose forward. The 25-year-old played a full 80 minutes and put in a massive effort on defence this morning. Hunt topped the charts with 18 tackles today and it's impressive that he only missed one.
Sevu Reece (Crusaders)
The Fijian born flyer started on the bench in this game but boy did he turn the game on it’s head when he got on the field. The 23-year-old beat five defenders with ball in hand in his 31 minutes on the field, scored a try and made 100% of his tackles.
Shannon Frizell (Highlanders)
The 26-year-old was unfortunately on the losing end today, but he put in his best performance of Super Rugby Aotearoa. On defence, the flanker made 17 tackles, carried the ball seven times and also managed one turnover for his team.
To cap off his impressive performance he also got himself on the score sheet.
Tom Christie (Crusaders)
All eyes were on the youngster as he started his first game of the new competition. Christie was in red-hot form before the pandemic hit New Zealand’s shores and many wondered if he would produce the same performance after such a long break.
The 22-year-old did just that and although his numbers might not look as impressive as a few others he was all over the field and also scored two tries.
