The reasoning behind the worst haircut in Rugby

Former Waikato and New Zealand Maori forward Jacob Skeen was in the spotlight recently after he was pictured with one of the most outrageous haircuts you will see on a rugby pitch while playing in Japan for Ricoh Black Rams.

The reasoning behind the haircut have now emerged with the forward having started a Give a little page to raise money for charity in November last year.

The 26-year-old started the page titled 'Raising money for Harbour Hospice. A head shave with a twist.' to raise money for Harbour Hospice in New Zealand.

On the page he wrote:

'I’ve been told I can’t really grow a decent moustache, so instead of participating in ‘Movember’, I plan to shave my head at the end of November instead.

We all know of someone who has been or is affected by cancer in some way and it’s no different for me and my family. I’ve had it take my Pop and Uncle, seen my cousin win the battle, and now have another Uncle fighting through it. Not to mention, see firsthand how it impacts other friends and family members.

If you decide to donate then any amount would mean so much to me. All funds will go to the Harbour Hospice who are currently helping my Uncle John with anything he needs back home.

Here’s the catch.

As an incentive, I’ve decided to reward the largest donation made by Thursday 29th November. The biggest donor can decide on any sort of haircut, and I’ll proudly rep it for the 2nd of December when my team, The RICOH BlackRams, play in the Japanese Top League Rugby Quarter-final. I’ll then shave it all off the following day.

I hope we can raise some money for this great organisation and help make the lives of people, like my Uncle John, a little bit easier.'
