Vincent Koch takes on coaching role with Championship club

Rugby World Cup-winning Springbok prop Vincent Koch is taking on a coaching role with Championship club Ampthill.

The Saracens' centurion makes the move to Wasps next season and as he enters the final seasons of his playing career, he has started planning for his post-playing career.

Since I am approaching the last couple of seasons of my playing career, I have decided to share my passion and experience for the dark arts of scrumming with the amazing club of Ampthill. Since I joined them as scrum consultant I realized how much I love getting involved in coaching and am honoured to be associated with Ampthill.” - Vincent Koch.

Koch spent the past six seasons at Saracens, making over 120 appearances, winning two Premiership Titles plus European Champions Cup in 2017 and 2019. He has 28 caps for South Africa and a World Cup winners medal from 2019 (when his South African team beat England in the final).

Last December he announced that he will leave Saracens this summer to play for Premiership rivals Wasps, and he joins Ampthill as a Specialist Scrum Coach as he transitions towards a career off the field.

He joins a coaching team of Paul Turner (Head Coach), Mouritz Botha (Forwards Coach), Tom Hudson (Backs Player-Coach) and Mikey Crowley (Head of S&C).

Paul Turner comments “I’m obviously delighted that we’ve been able to attract a coach of Vincent’s calibre to our club! There is very little that he hasn’t achieved in the game, and he will share his knowledge with our young squad as we build for our fourth season in the Championship!
