Wallabies name 40-player training squad for January camp

Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt has named a 40-player squad to assemble in Sydney ahead of the 2026 season.
The start-of-year camp will see the group come together before returning to their Super Rugby Pacific clubs following a gruelling Test schedule.
Queensland Reds prop Massimo De Lutiis is the lone uncapped player, coming off the back of a disrupted 2025 season with injury.
Fellow prop Isaac Kailea has also been called in, along with the likes of Darcy Swain and Brandon Paenga-Amosa, who didn't feature on the Spring Tour.
Flyhalves Tom Lynagh and Ben Donaldson are among four flyhalves named, with Lynagh missing the second half of the season due to injury.
Fullback Tom Wright has been named, continuing his recovery from a long-term knee injury, with scrumhalf Tate McDermott also making his way back from a hamstring injury.
The camp will not include any players who are based overseas, with players such as Angus Bell, Taniela Tupou, James O'Connor, Will Skelton and Len Ikitau currently in action in Europe.
“The couple of days we have together in early January will provide a final opportunity to look back on, and to learn from, a demanding 2025 Test campaign," Schmidt said in a statement.
“It also provides a chance to complete some national testing and check in with the players from a medical perspective before they return to their Super Rugby Pacific clubs ahead of the 2026 season.”
The Wallabies will not assemble again until after the conclusion of Super Rugby Pacific, with the men in gold set to play 14 Tests across the 2026 international season.
They will open their season against Ireland in Sydney on July 4 as part of the new Nations Championship.
This will be followed by matches against France and Italy, the final two in charge for Schmidt.
