The Queensland Reds announced on Friday that 4 current Wallabies will represent them at this year’s Brisbane Global Rugby Tens on the 11th and 12th of February.
Lock Rob Simmons, prop James Slipper, centre Samu Kerevi and New Zealand-born loose forward Leroy Houston have all been included in the squad, as well as the wildcard inclusion of Chris Latham.
Reds will take on the Blues, Crusaders and Samoa in the pool stages. Reds coach Nick Stiles is relishing the opportunity of a tough pool stages:
"That should benefit us in our pre-season preparations as all three teams are physical and like to move the ball around and that will provide us with a good challenge ahead of Super Rugby," Stiles said.
"Not only is it an opportunity for us to put into action what we've been training since last year, but it is also a chance to demonstrate to our fans the hard work we've put in to ensure we're a better side in 2017."
The Red's also include the 3 NRL recruits in Karmichael Hunt and 'Tongan Thor' Taniela Tupou and Lachlan Maranta who are joining the side ahead of Super Rugby 2017.
The squad features five Wallabies, 20 players that have featured in Super Rugby and six uncapped players.
"We felt it was important to have a balance of some of our more seasoned players, while also giving the young guys some reward for all their hard work," Stiles said.
"They've been training incredibly hard since the conclusion of last year's Super Rugby season and now get the chance to showcase what they're capable of on the field against some seriously tough opposition."
