David Pocock
The returning back rower was played out of position at number 8, but that didn’t stop him having a huge impact on Australia's match against Fiji. The Brumbies man was a constant presence at the breakdown, forcing countless turnovers and slowing down possession. In the loose he put in an eye catching display, scoring two tries and making an astonishing 16 tackles. Wallaby fans will be ecstatic to see Pocock back to his best.
Ben Volavola
The young Fijian out half had a shaky performance with the boot last time out, and looked to be far more comfortable when relieved of his duties this week. Volavola had a fine performance with ball in hand, looking like a really comfortable distributor of the ball. He even managed to sell a beautiful dummy to score under the posts, which at the time brought his side right back in the match.
Wesley Fofana
Returning after an extended absence from the game, the Clermont flyer looked instantly back to his best. Carrying the ball with real intent, Fofana broke the line at will while still looking impenetrable in defence. Clearly looking like a man with something to prove, the centre will have given Phillippe Saint-Andre something to think about when he selects his side for France’s crunch match against Ireland.
Sofiane Guitoune
Guitoune was given his chance on the wing against Romania and he took it with gusto. The big winger dotted down twice in the win, with two very good finishes in the corner. With news that Yoann Huget will play no further part in this year’s competition, a place is up for grabs on the wing in this French side, and Guitoune has made himself a front runner for selection with this stellar performance.
Mark Bennett
Scotland had an impressive win over the plucky Japanese, and Mark Bennett had a huge role to play. The Glasgow centre was a constant threat, making two clean breaks and beating four defenders in the process. To top it all, his two tries came at a crucial point in the match when Japan were very much still in the game. Bigger tests await Bennett, but this was a performance to say he is game for any of them.
