All Blacks eyeing Hurricanes star as cover for Ryan Crotty

The All Blacks are seeking a medical update on Hurricanes midfielder Vince Aso as they look for cover for the injured Ryan Crotty.

Crotty was knocked out during the first Bledisloe Cup match against Australia on Saturday following a collision with teammate Jack Goodhue.

With Sonny Bill Williams still out, Steve Hansen said the All Blacks needed cover in midfield with only Goodhue, Anton Lienert-Brown and Ngani Laumape left as potential options.

“Logically, we should probably start looking for a midfielder,” Hansen said in Sydney.

“The guy we’re pretty keen, (Vince) Aso, we’re trying to get a medical update on him, how his wrist is.”

“He’s got a wrist injury from Super Rugby which he broke it, didn’t he?”

“I know he’s getting an operation so I just want to know where there that is before we make any decisions about who’s next."

Aso featured in 9 of the Hurricanes Super Rugby matches in 2018 scoring 5 tries before injuring his wrist against the Lions in May.
