Bath injury update

Bath Rugby's head of medical services, Rory Murray, has provided an injury update on the Gallagher PREM side's squad ahead of the visit of Exeter Chiefs on Friday night in Round Two of the 2026/27 Gallagher PREM.

England international winger Henry Arundell is back in training ahead of last season's PREM semi-final rematch, having missed the trip to The Twickenham Stoop with 'a small back issue,' but could miss the this weekend's match.

Bath head of rugby Johann van Graan explained: “Henry was part of training today. He is struggling a bit with his back so will make a decision later in the week whether he will play on Friday night.

Sam Underhill

The England international flanker sustained an injury to his bicep during Friday night’s match against Harlequins.

Johann van Graan confirmed in his midweek press conference on Tuesday that a scan revealed he has torn his bicep and will have surgery this week. Van Graan said: "There’s a few type of injuries where I just want to know straight away because I know the impact that it has longer term, and I always feel for the players, so that’s why I went straight down (to the tunnel) when it happened.'

“At the time it was very much, ‘look, we need to wait for the scan, but this could be a bicep rupture’. And the scan turned out to be exactly that, so he will get operated on, on Thursday.

“That’s obviously a few months out of the game, so not ideal from Sam’s point of view. But as with every player who gets injured at this club, we’ll do our best to get him back as soon as possible.”

Van Graan added: “It is always disappointing for every player when you get injured in round one, because you have just come through a big pre-season and you are just kind of getting started. But injuries are part and parcel of this game and Sam had had a few big ones, and I am sure he will be back as soon as possible, and we are looking forward to welcoming him back, whenever that is, whether it is December or January.”

Jamie Bhatti

The Scotland international loosehead prop fractured his arm during Bath’s pre-season fixture against Glasgow Warriors. He will be unavailable for a number of months.

Will Muir

The England international winger continues his rehabilitation following a shoulder procedure in the summer. There is no fixed date on his return.

Louie Hennessey

The Wales international centre sustained a foot injury during our pre-season fixture against Bedford Blues. He will resume team training at the beginning of October.

Vilikesa Sela

The England A international tighthead prop sustained an injury to his toe in pre-season training. He will miss the first block of Gallagher PREM games and return in late November.

Ben Spencer

The England international scrum half and club captain has returned to team training following shoulder surgery in late July. He will become available for selection in mid-October.
