Brown puts the blame on Gatland

Former England fullback Mike Brown has placed the blame of the British & Irish Lions’ defeat to the Springboks squarely at the feet of Head Coach Warren Gatland.

Brown believes that Gatland got it wrong in the second Test and thus let the Springboks in to eventually claim the series.

Rather than take the Boks on at their own game, Brown is of the opinion that the Lions should have changed tactics to something more expansive.

"Selections justified especially Wyn Jones and Finn Russell off bench," Brown wrote in dailymail.co.uk.

"But if he had got the game plan and selection right in the second Test they’d have won the series.

Brown was complimentary of the efforts of second-row ace, Maro Itoje:

"Different game, same world class outcome. He was the Lions’ player of the series, despite their defeat, consistently at the top of his game for all three Tests.”
