CLASSY TOUCH: Eben Etzebeth's fiancée sings national anthem in his 100th test

Saturday's deciding test match between South Africa and Wales was a particularly special occasion for Eben Etzebeth.

The South African second rower notched up 100 test caps for his country becoming just the seventh Springbok to reach the milestone and the youngest.

The organisers of the test match rolled out the red carpet for South Africa's latest centurion with 51 000 fans welcoming him to the pitch as he led the Springboks out.

A huge structure with the words 'Eben 100' was wheeled out onto the pitch and set ablaze when he ran out.

 


Then as he stood ready to sing the national anthem, his fiancée Anlia van Rensburg stood by the microphone to belt out Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika.


It was a classy touch for Etzebeth, who was reportedly unaware that his future bride would be the singer on the day.

The man himself unable to verify whether he knew she would be the one to sign the anthem in his post-match interview as he could not hear the question over the roaring crowd.

It is believed that Springbok captain Siya Kolisi organised that Anlia would sing the anthem.




"It was special having my family here with my dad in the stands and my fiancée singing the national anthem," said Etzebeth afterwards.

"I have a little bit of a routine before every game, so it's not something new that I did," he said.

"When I came out, especially with those flames going, I was just trying to take everything in, singing the national anthem.

"In a couple of days or weeks, it will probably settle in how special everything was. I was just trying to take in every moment, but the most important thing was to get the victory.
