Conor Murray confirms exit from Munster after 17-year career

Ireland and Munster scrum-half Conor Murray has announced he will leave the province at the end of this season to pursue a playing opportunity abroad. The departure brings to a close a remarkable chapter in both his and the club’s history.

A product of St Munchin’s College and the Munster Academy, Murray made his senior debut in April 2010. Over the next 15 years, he became the heartbeat of Munster, with his combative spirit, calm under pressure, and pinpoint kicking earning him not just club legend status, but respect across the rugby world.

Murray represented Munster a remarkable 207 times, scoring 198 points – a testament to his durability and consistency . He won not one but two URC titles (2010–11 and 2022–23) during a career that bridged rugby eras.

On the international stage, Murray earned 125 Ireland caps, scoring 115 points, and was part of Ireland’s glorious period including five Six Nations titles (2014, 2015, 2018, 2023, 2024), achieving two Grand Slams (2018, 2023) and four Triple Crowns. He also toured with the British & Irish Lions in 2013, 2017, and 2021.

Munster Rugby’s statement captured the sentiment: “One of the best players in Munster Rugby history … a true great of the sport” . Interim head coach Ian Costello added that Murray leaves “the jersey in an unbelievably good place” .
