Contepomi Likens Sexton to Lionel Messi

Former Argentine flyhalf Felipe Contepomi has likened Leinster's new captain Johnny Sexton to Argentine footballer Lionel Messi.

Contepomi, who represented his country 87 times, recently joined Leinster's backroom staff ahead of the 2018/19 season having represented the side between 2003 and 2009.

The World Rugby Hall of Famer has spoken highly about Sexton since his arrival at Leinster comparing his work ethic to that to arguably the best footballer in the world right now:

“Everyone speaks about Messi, but, when you talk to a friend or colleague of Messi, they say he’s the first one to arrive, the last one to leave,” Contepomi said. “So, you have that talent but you have to back it up with hard work.

“And that’s Johnny. He’s a talented footballer but definitely, when you see him the way he’s been all his professional career, the way he behaves, that’s what made him become a different player.”

Sexton will captain Leinster this season after taking over the reins from Isa Nacewa who retired at the end of the 2017/18 season.
