Cottrell signs new Rebels deal

The Melbourne Rebels have confirmed the contract extension of back rower, Angus Cottrell, through to the end of the 2019 season.

The popular 28-year-old has made five appearances for the Rebels since crossing from the Western Force at the start of the 2018 pre-season.

Prior to this year, Cottrell had played 56 matches with the Western Australian Super Rugby side since his debut in 2012 and has scored five Super Rugby career tries.

“It was a pretty easy decision for me. Obviously (it has been) a great start to the year and I’ve loved my time in Melbourne so far,” Cottrell said.

“(The Rebels) are a great club to play for and a great group of players. I’m just really excited where this club is heading, so I’m happy to be a part of it.

“I love coming in here every day and that makes it easy. Now having that decision made, I can just come in and focus on my rugby and just worry about that.”

After missing the 2017 Super Rugby season due to a knee injury, Cottrell has impressed with his work ethic, as emphasised by forcing his way into the Head Coach, Dave Wessels’ starting XV in each of his five caps this season.
