From the start the visitors looked sharp. In the third minute a break from lock Josh Lord unfolded, setting up Cam Roigard for a try.

The second half saw a different Scotland. The home side began to find their way into the contest.
Around five minutes into the half, Scotland struck through hooker Ewan Ashman from a line-out drive, finally putting points on the board.
Later, wing Kyle Steyn crossed for another try, and with a penalty by Finn Russell Scotland had pulled themselves level 17–17 with about 20 minutes left.
This comeback looked eminent with New Zealand down a man. Scotland’s momentum building, the crowd believing.
Just when it looked like Scotland might make history, New Zealand showed their character. With about six minutes remaining, substitute Damian McKenzie executed a superb 50-22 kick, gaining excellent field position. He then finished with a try in the corner. Shortly afterwards he slotted a long-range penalty to seal the result.
The final whistle blew with the score New Zealand 25, Scotland 17.
