Diamond sacked by Red Bulls
Steve Diamond has been dismissed as director of rugby at Newcastle Red Bulls after just one game of the new season.
The club has moved quickly to restructure, with senior coach Alan Dickens promoted to lead the side. Former Scotland boss Gregor Townsend has also been brought in to provide strategic guidance as an adviser.
Diamond, 56, arrived at Newcastle in early 2024 to help steady the club during its transition under new Red Bull ownership. His exit follows a poor start to the campaign and a desire from the hierarchy to refresh the coaching set up.
Dickens will now take charge of the squad on a day to day basis, with Gregor Townsend expected to play a key role in shaping the team’s long term direction.
