Domestic rugby to begin soon in South Africa

The South African government has given the green light for domestic rugby to resume in the first two weeks of September.

Due to current regulations, the games will be played behind closed doors.

SA Rugby Chief Executive Jurie Roux said:

"We are very grateful for the opportunity to move to the next phase of our return-to-play plans.

"At this stage, we hope to have our first matches by early to mid-September and our plans on the structure of the planned competition will be announced in due course, as we have various options to consider."

The news comes as welcome relief to players, coaches and fans alike, who have been starved of rugby since March.

In addition to this, the opportunity will provide much needed match practice for the players ahead of the proposed Rugby Championship which will most likely take place in New Zealand in November.
