Dragons Move Game to Cardiff City Stadium

Dragons Rugby can confirm the region’s Round Four fixture in the Guinness PRO14 Rainbow Cup against Glasgow Warriors will now take place at Cardiff City Stadium.

Dean Ryan’s men will face the Scottish side at the home of Cardiff City on Saturday, May 29 (kick-off 7.35pm) to allow work to commence on the Rodney Parade pitch.

A new pitch was scheduled to be installed following the 2019/20 season, but due to Covid-19 restrictions was delayed until the completion of the current campaign.

Mark Jones, Managing Director at Dragons, said: “We’re extremely grateful to our colleagues at Cardiff City, the Guinness PRO14 and host broadcasters for their support and understanding with this venue change.

“We delayed work on the pitch for a number of weeks to ensure Newport County could play any play-off fixture here, but it’s now vital to start renovations so it can be completed for the 2021/22 season.

“The pitch is part of a series of projects being carried out to enhance our matchday experience ahead of the anticipated return of fans next season.

“The confirmation of the venue change sadly does mean fans will not have seen the Dragons at home this season. We will therefore be in touch with our Season Members as soon as possible with a full update on plans," he added.

“We thank the Dragons Family for their unwavering support and understanding throughout a season where they have been missed hugely.

“Everybody at Dragons here is looking forward to the day they return home next season.”
