Duncan Weir wins Scotland recall

Duncan Weir wins Scotland recall
Warriors’ fly-half Duncan Weir has been called into Scotland’s squad for next week’s Six Nations opener against Ireland in Dublin.

Weir will play for Warriors in Saturday’s Premiership match against Wasps at Sixways then travel to Edinburgh where the Scotland squad will assemble on Sunday.

Weir, 28, has played for Scotland 27 times with his last cap coming against Italy at Murrayfield in the 2017 Six Nations.

But he was called up to Scotland’s extended Six Nations squad last season after an outstanding first season with Warriors. Weir’s consistent form this season coupled with Scotland’s decision to suspend Finn Russell for a breach of team protocols has led to another recall.

Weir will be the second Warriors player involved in Scotland’s squad session alongside number eight Cornell du Preez.

Du Preez, who won the last of his six caps two years ago, was recalled by Scotland last week and was involved in their first Six Nations camp earlier this week.

Weir passed 100 points for the season against Castres last week and has scored 362 points for Warriors in 35 appearances since he arrived at Sixways from Edinburgh two years ago.
