England Player Ratings

1. Mako Vunipola – 6/10

Solid at scrum time despite some significant pressure from his opposite number. Carried often but fail to make any real impact with ball in hand. Quiet afternoon overall.

2. Jamie George – 6/10

Very accurate at the lineout with a success rate of 100%. Dogged in defence, completing an impressive total of tackles. Handed cheap scrum possession to France twice with two careless knock-ons.

3. Dan Cole – 5/10

Lacklustre performance from the English tighthead coasted through the game without really making any impact. He only managed to carry 3 times for a total gain of 3 metres and was hauled off after 58 minutes of play.

4. Joe Launchbury – 6/10

A key part of a functional English lineout, both offensively and defensively. He tackled doggedly and got through a respectable amount of work at the breakdown.

5. Maro Itoje – 6/10

Another key part of the impressive English lineout performance. Rock solid in defence, making some crushing hits but guilty of some poor discipline at the breakdown.

6. Courtney Lawes – 6/10

Another one of the major contributors to England’s staggering penalty count. However, he got through a huge amount of work at the breakdown and was one of the better ball carriers on the pitch.

7. Chris Robshaw – 4/10

Like many of the England players, Robshaw had a bad day at the office. He conceded three penalties and only made seven tackles while missing two. His carrying wasn't as effective as usual with 11 carries and just 12 meters made.

8. Nathan Hughes – N/A

Unfortunately forced off early through injury.

9. Danny Care – 5/10

Care was solid without setting the world alight. The lack of protection he good from his forwards made it difficult to get quick ball to the backline.

10. George Ford – 4/10

England lack fluency in the backline which ultimately rests with the number 10. Ford was steamrolled by the French backline on a number of occasions and looked vulnerable defensively.

11. Elliot Daly – 6/10

One of the better English performers was Elliot Daly. He nailed a kick from over 55 metres in the first half and looked dangerous with ball in hand.

12. Owen Farrell – 6/10

Farrell was imperious from the kicking tee kicking two penalties and one conversion. He put England in great attacking positions when given the opportunity to punt from penalties although it wasn't enough to secure the victory.

13. Ben Te'o – 4/10

The British & Irish Lion was anonymous this afternoon and failed to bring anything positive despite playing the full 80 minutes.

14. Johnny May – 6/10

May did all that was asked of him and got England back into the game with a try on 73 minutes. However, the Leicester winger struggled to get his hands on the ball for large portions of the game so 6/10 is warranted.

15. Anthony Watson – 5/10

Watson was one of England's better performers but the penalty try he gave away on 48 minutes ultimately cost England the game.
