Full time: Australia 28 - 10 Fiji

Australia secure their opening win but not the bonus point in a dogged encounter at the Millennium stadium. After an exciting first half performance, that saw Man of the Match David Pocock cross the whitewash on two occasions, the Australians fell out of pace in the second and allowed the Fijians to creep back into contention.  Despite the Fijian’s resilience, the outcome was never really in doubt.  The Australians dominated at the breakdown and racked up a remarkable 11 turnovers, validating this new Aussies back-row combination.

The Fijian’s will take solace in denying Australia their much needed bonus point win. Matawalu and Nadolo were particularly prominent, and put phenomenal pressure on the Wallabies out-wide. Nadolo’s threatening presence on the wing inevitably led to the Fijians’ first and only try this evening, as the Aussies struggled to assign defenders.

Australia head to Villa Park next to battle face Uruguay, whilst Fiji will return to the Millennium Stadium for another menacing encounter with the Welsh.
