Leicester Tigers can confirm that Hanro Liebenberg will be leaving the club at the end of the current campaign.
The loose forward will return to South Africa as he moves back to his first club - the Vodacom Bulls.
The club is sad to see Hanro leave, but given his exceptional service in his seven years in Leicester, support his wish to return home.
His athleticism, durability and passion endeared Liebenberg to teammates and the Mattioli Woods Welford Road faithful almost immediately, and he remains a popular member of the side seven years later.
During his time in Leicester, Liebenberg has made 141 appearances for the club and scored 31 tries so far, winning the Gallagher PREM title in 2022.
Geoff Parling said, “Hanro has been an outstanding player and person, and he’s contributed so much to the group. We’re gutted to see him leave, but we fully understand his desire to return home and finish his career in South Africa.”
“True to his character, he was open and honest with us from the very beginning of our pre-season discussions. In our meetings with him and Danielle, it was clear they wanted to take Lucah back to be closer to family, and after everything he has given to the club, we felt it was important to support that decision.”
"Everyone knows the impact he has had since arriving in 2019. His professionalism and consistency have set a standard, particularly for the younger players, and he will always be a Tiger.”
Hanro Liebenberg said, “This decision has been one of the toughest decisions of my career. I love this place and everyone has given me so much. They have always been here for me and my family.”
“I’ll be sad to leave Leicester Tigers at the end of the season, but when I look back in a few years, I’ll have the fondest memories. I’ll be back soon and I’ll bring my kids to experience Mattioli Woods Welford Road once again.”
“The club and the trophies here are special, but what I will always remember is the people, the fans. They have always had my back, always had my family’s back and always looked out for me.”
“What you want to do is leave this place in a better position than when I found it, and I’d like to think that I’ve done that.”
