Israel Folau in fresh courtroom battle

Israel Folau finds himself in another courtroom battle, this time in an attempt to resurrect his rugby league career in Australia.

Folau has expressed a desire to represent the Southport Tigers, however, Queensland Rugby League has stated that it will not accept Folau’s registration until clearance is received from French-based club Catalans, with whom Folau is currently contracted.

If and when clearance is approved, Folau will be required to adhere to the QRL’s code of conduct and it has been made clear that his controversial social media posts which blighted his rugby union career are not in line with said code of conduct.

Folau’s lawyers are of the opinion that the QRL’s position is an unreasonable one and a restraint of trade.

“Israel Folau is a perfect role model for the game and the QRL needs to recognise that,” his lawyer, Sam Iskander, said.

“Israel doesn’t drink, smoke or take drugs. He never been charged with any criminal offence. He loves his wife and his son. He has a rugby playing record second to none. Israel, like any other Australian, has the right to support his family.”
