Italy breeze past Russia

In a game that involved 13 tries from one side its is hard to single out and individual. This was the case this evening as Italy hammered Russia. 85 - 15 was the final score with Russia only scoring two tries. This will be a scare for tonight’s away side as they prepare for the World Cup and will be additional motivation for the Azzurri. One man worth mentioning tonight is Matteo Minozzi. Picked as one to watch the 23-year-old did not disappoint tonight as he went on to end his night with a hattrick. He ended the night with the following statistics:

  • Five clean breaks
  • 15 points
  • 128 metres gained and
  • Three offloads

The left wing also made a turnover proving that he can be relied on when it comes to the dirty work. A standout player throughout the Pro14 for Zebre, the Wasps based left wingers was in fantastic form this evening and just couldn't take his hands off the ball.

Outside centre, Michele Campagnaro was also instrumental tonight and while he did not dot over he was involved in most of the plays leading up to the Italian tries. His proved his strength by evading and often breaking the first tackle. He caused plenty of problems for his opposition today. Together with his four tackles he also ended his evening with 76 running metres, three try assists and two defenders beaten.

Italy will feel very confident going into this year’s World Cup which is now 33 days away!
