Jordie sends a clear message to WC selectors

Having been rested last week Jordie Barrett was itching to get back into action. And it did not take him long to make his presence felt.

Playing in his preferred fullback position it only took him 4 minutes to announce himself. It was his first time playing in the last line of defence since the Hurricanes Round 2 loss against the Crusaders. These were Jordie Barrett's statistics this evening:

  • Tries: 2
  • Try Assist: 1
  • Metres made: 231
  • Defenders Beaten: 11

With the World Cup creeping ever so near, the fullback position is one that is tightly contested and tonight the 22 year old one the battle against another exciting prospect Solomon Alaimalo. However the Chief fullback had a night that he will look to forget very quickly. While Solly was have an awful night Jordie kept turning it up and it was his well timed offload that put his fellow All Black in for the Hurricanes 5th try.

Ben Smith might be the World Cup favourite for the fullback position however Jordie's performance tonight would have definitely not made it any easier for the Highlanders captain.
