Kaino and Pointud get bans

Jerome Kaino and loosehead prop Lucas Pointud have both been banned after their respective disciplinary hearings in Paris.

Former All Black Kaino knocked Bath centre Jamie Roberts out with a 39th-minute tackle in the 22-20 win and was sent to the sin-bin by referee Andrew Brace.

Kaino was cited by a citing commissioner and accused of striking Roberts' head with his shoulder.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge and gave evidence to the three-man disciplinary panel but was found guilty of foul play - warranting a red card - and banned for five weeks until December 3.

Kaino's ban was reduced by a week for "good conduct at the hearing".

Pointud has been suspended for four weeks for striking Nathan Catt in the 50th minute.

The prop pleaded not guilty to headbutting and gave evidence at his hearing. The committee upheld the complaint but concluded it had actually been shoulder-to-head contact, which should have been red card.

Despite the fact there were some mitigating factors, the absence of a guilty plea meant the committee could not reduce the ban by the maximum 50%. Pointud is free to play on November 26.
