Key Battles: Wasps v Leicester Tigers

Key Battles: Wasps v Leicester Tigers

A Midlands derby that always produces drama and expect nothing less in the Wasps-Leicester Tigers round three clash.

The last game between these two sides was won by Leicester Tigers thanks to a late penalty from George Ford while the clash before that was won thanks to a late try by Kearnan Myall try with Jimmy Gopperth converting the conversion.

With not much separating the two sides we take a look at three battles that might decide the result.

The Battle in the Engine Room: Joe Launchbury v Will Spencer

Launchbury has built his career around his superb work rate and aggression around the park and will look to impose himself against the Tigers.

Will Spencer was handed a start last week and produced a similar to performance to that of Joe Lauchbury.

Providing their respective sides with clean ball from the set pieces and a strong attacking platform as well as rock-solid defence could make a massive difference in the result.

The Battle of the Generals - Lima Sopoaga v George Ford

A lot has been said about Danny Cipriani in the opening rounds of action but George Ford has been just as, if not more, impressive for the Tigers.

Ford was simply superb against Newcastle in all facets of the game racking up 29 points in the match.

On the flipside, Lima Sopoaga gets his first start for Wasps and the former All Black will look to make an impression after showing glimpses of what he is capable of against Exeter Chiefs.

On paper, the former Highlander is a perfect fit for Wasps' style of play.

With recent clashes between these two sides coming down to the wire ever small battle each flyhalf can win could decide the game whether it's from the tee or from open play.

The Midfield Battle - Juan de Jongh v Manu Tuilagi

Juan de Jongh battled hard last week to get his side back in the game making 17 tackles but was unable to make a big impact on attack.

Meanwhile, Tuilagi was provided with excellent service making 72 running metres and dotting down for a try.

Both players are a threat on attack and solid in defence making this a real clash between two classy midfielders.
