Late charge was always the plan - JDV

Springbok captain Jean de Villiers says his team's late surge to race past the Wallabies at Newlands on Saturday was no accident.

South Africa were trailing by two points with just ten minutes left on the clock but the hosts scored three tries and a drop goal to win 28-10 as the Australian defence finally cracked under sustained pressure.

"It was how we planned it.

You never want to leave it too late but we said if we stuck to our structures in first 60-70 minutes, we could break them down in the last 10," said De Villiers at the post-match press conference.
