Leavy's season is over and is in doubt for the Rugby World Cup

Leinster have confirmed that openside flanker Dan Leavy will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a serious injury in the Champions Cup victory over Ulster on Saturday.

The 24-year-old was a second-half replacement for Sean O'Brien, but his outing was cut short after just 11 minutes, as he appeared to suffer a significant knee injury.

The game was delayed for a number of minutes to allow Leavy to receive medical attention before he was stretchered off the field of play.

Leinster head coach Leo Cullen confirmed it is a serious injury.

"Dan has had a bad injury. I don't want to get into too much detail. He will be out for a while. We will get it assessed and take it from there," he said.

"It's a tough one for Dan."

Leavy played no part in Ireland's Six Nations campaign and had just once game under his belt this year following a calf injury.

The flanker is also now a major doubt for Ireland’s Rugby World Cup campaign in Japan.
