Lions to take on Springboks without 'Red Army'

The British & Irish Lions will have to take on the World Champion Springboks without the support of the enthusiastic and vociferous ‘Red Army’.

This comes after reports that Lions supporters tickets have been cancelled and games in South Africa will be attended by only a few spectators in line with Covid-19 regulations.

British & Irish Lions | Series review: British & Irish Lions fans revel in series win

Just a few short weeks ago, there was much optimism surrounding the notion that a number of Lions supporters would be able to tour with the side. Such hopes have now been dashed, unfortunately.

It is understood that around 35 000 Lions fans were set to travel to South Africa to cheer on the men in red. Their presence was expected to bring a major boost to the South African economy, something the country will now be without.

The Lions supporters have built up a glowing reputation in recent years amongst the rugby fraternity and their absence from the tour will be sorely felt.
