Lions Watch: Second Row
With such rich competition available in the second row, we look at the options available to Warren Gatland as the Lions gear up to face New Zealand next summer.
Maro Itoje

Has been phenomenal since breaking onto the scene in the last year. Has established himself as one of England's key player and has to be one of the favourites to go on the tour. His presence around the field with his size and strength is hard to ignore.
Alun Wyn Jones
Has been there and done it with the Lions. One of the most expierenced locks for Warren Gatland to choose from and has even captained a winning Lions test team. Hard to not see him on the plane to NZ.
Jonny Gray
A phenomenal player for Glasgow and Scotland, Gray's work rate on a rugby pitch is second to none. Gray has made 101 tackles so far this season fro Glasgow and Scotland, only missing 1 all season, quite an amazing stat. So much rich competition means he hasn't been touted as much as other locks, but has a real chance to go on the tour.
Devin Toner
Toner carries serious size and as shown recently against the All Blacks, it can be a great asset to any team facing the World's number 1 team. Has great experince at international level so wouldn't be out of his depth. However, with all the competition he may find himself missing out.
George Kruis
His partnership with club teammate Maro Itoje has been one of the best pairings in World Rugby in recent years. For both club and country they've worked in tandem with each other and are unbeaten in an England shirt when paired together. Gatland may find it tough to leave him out.
Luke Charteris
Gatland knows Charteris best and has gotten some of his best form out of him in a Wales shirt. A great asset around the pitch to have with his size and physicality. Has a good chance to be in the squad but there's some superb competition around him.
Joe Launchbury
Has been unlucky to not start for England, being one of the best performers for England in recent years, but the form of Itoje and Kruis is just impossible to ignore. Proved on Saturday his talents against a physical South Africa side but may be an outsider to be on the plane to NZ.
