Luke Fitzgerald injured ahead of Irish tour to SA
Fitzgerald, who was named in the 32-man Irish squad for the three-Test series in South Africa against the Springboks will have to miss the event due to injury.
The Leinster utility back was hurt in the title decider in Edinburgh on Saturday and Schmidt revealed this afternoon that he was out of the tour.
"Matt will be one of the guys in contention," said Schmidt.
"He's a left wing, a left footer, like for like with Luke.
Connacht's Matt Healy is likely to be called for the three-Test tour.
