England marched on into the Rugby World Cup Final with a 19-7 win over New Zealand in the semi-finals. England got off to a dream start with an early try in the second minute giving them a 7-0 lead. England controlled possession and won the territory battle for much of the first half and were rewarded with a penalty just before the break, which they slotted to take a 10-0 advantage into halftime. Another English penalty early in the second half saw them extend their lead out to 13-0. The All Blacks needed a response and were gifted a try from an England error from a lineout 5m from their own line which saw New Zealand score to reduce the deficit to just six points heading into the final quarter at 13-7. However, England once again reestablished their territorial dominance to play in the right areas of the field. The pressure on New Zealand began to pay off as England were able to slot a further two penalties to push their lead out to 19-7 with just over ten minutes remaining. The All Blacks had to run everything but were kept out by some resolute English defence as they ground out a thoroughly deserved victory.
