Michael Ruru joins the Rebels

The Melbourne Rebels have added scrumhalf Michael Ruru to their squad until the end of the 2019 Super Rugby season.

The 27-year-old former scaffolder has emerged as one of the premier halfbacks in Australian rugby over the last 12 months.

“Mike hasn’t always had things his own way and has really lived in the real world over the last few years – his recent success is driven by his enthusiasm and work ethic. He is a genuine competitor that will be very good for our group,” Melbourne Rebels Head Coach Dave Wessels said.

Ruru said he was looking forward to the new challenge at the Rebels.

“There’s a lot of quality players in the squad, especially in the halfback role, so I know it’s going to be a huge challenge and competition for game day positions but I’ll bring my energy and passion to Melbourne,” Ruru said.

“With the challenge comes the opportunity for me to continue my development in an elite rugby program under world-class coaches which will drive better players and standards.”
