Nick Isiekwe happy with versatility role

In an interview with Premiership Rugby, England and Saracens forward Nick Isiekwe revealed that he is happy to in multiple positions. 

The 20-year-old had quite a 2018 winning a league title, being named the Saracens Young Player of the Year award and a full England debut.

The promising youngster played a major role in Saracens’ title-winning season that led to him being named in the England squad to tour South Africa.

He has shown he can play second row or flanker and insists he’s fazed about what the number is on the back of his shirt.

He said: “I’m happy to play in multiple positions – four, five or six – it doesn’t matter to me. I’m happy to play wherever the coach sees fit.

“There are a lot of similarities between the two. Both positions are demanding and require you to push on as hard as you can.”

A year on from his international call-up for the two-Test series against Argentina, Isiekwe was handed his first test start against South Africa. However, his full debut was cut short when Eddie Jones replaced the youngster with the uncapped Brad Shields just minutes before half-time.

Despite being left out of the squad for the Second Test, the Saracens youngster will not be letting the lack of game time on tour get him down.

“It’s in the past now. All I can do is learn from every experience and I know what I have to do now to improve,” he added.

“The whole experience was a learning curve. It taught me to focus on how I can get more involved.

“I want to be getting my hands on the ball more often whilst making sure I’m also getting stuck in defensively in tackles.

“I want to increase my involvement on the pitch as much as possible.”
