Nigel Owens to ref World Cup final
World Rugby have announced that Welshman Nigel Owens will referee this weekend's final between New Zealand vs Australia.
The 44 year old will be the second man from Wales to take charge of a final, following Derek Bevan who was also in charge at Twickenham in 1991, when Australia beat England.
New Zealand selector Grant Fox had already suggested that Owens would be in charge at Twickenham on the 31st of October.
"We knew.. that he had that should we get the opportunity to play in that game [the final].
"Nigel is clearly the best referee in the world - he's demonstrated that.
" One of the key things he does, apart from communicating incredibly well with players, is that he lets the breakdown breathe, and that is really important."
