Ospreys recall Joe Thomas

Ospreys recall Joe Thomas

Joe Thomas has been recalled from his loan to the Dragons after a number of injuries left the Ospreys short of midfield options.

With Kieron Fonotia (Samoa) and Owen Watkin (Wales) away on international duty and Ben John (HIA) and Cory Allen (knee) already sidelined, the Ospreys lost youngsters Kieran Williams (ankle) and Tom Williams (arm) after last weekend’s win over Cardiff Blues.

Head Coach, Steve Tandy, confirmed:

“We’ve activated the recall clause in the loan agreement to enable us to bring Joe back. We are missing six centres for various reasons but being able to turn to another youngster off our development pathway is evidence of the hard work being done to bring through the next generation of Ospreys.

“Joe has performed well in Dragons colours over the last couple of weeks, taking the opportunity to get some minutes under his belt, and he’ll be looking to build on that back at his home region.”

Thomas had headed east to Rodney Parade earlier this month to provide injury cover for the Dragons and made two appearances in the Anglo-Welsh Cup, scoring his first senior try in the defeat to Newcastle Falcons.

The 21-year old, who has played five times for the Ospreys, links back up with the squad at Llandarcy Academy of Sport to prepare for Sunday’s Guinness PRO14 clash with Glasgow at the Liberty Stadium.
