Performance of the Day – England

England put in an immense performance today against the Springboks in Twickenham recording their first win against the Southern Hemisphere giants in over 10 years.

In the beginning of this clash England were guilty of some ill-discipline at the break down, conceding 6 penalties in the opening 25 minutes. However, after this they really kicked into life and accelerated through the gears.

Farrell and Ford were immense, both putting in incredible kicking displays, Ford from open play and Farrell from the tee. The ever reliable Billy Vunipola carried incredibly strongly, bursting through the Springbok defensive unit. Ben Youngs put in arguably his best performance in an English shirt this afternoon using his high rugby IQ and beautiful distribution skills to set up two tries for his team mates.

Despite the wide array of standout performers mentioned above, the man of the match award went to Joe Launchbury who put in the perfect forwards performance; he carried emphatically, put in some crunching hits and was a menace at the breakdown throughout. His incredible heart and determination perfectly sum up the theme of this historic victory for Eddie Jones’ men.
