Pirates tie down two more players

Back-rower Matt Bolwell and wing Alex O’Meara are the latest two Cornish Pirates to have signed new contracts with the club.

Matt has signed for a further two years and Alex for one.

Matt, a former Truro College student who started his rugby at Wadebridge Camels and later became a member of the Exeter Chiefs Academy, also represented England Under-17s and Under-18s, and has in the past played for Exeter Braves in the A League.

Injuries had unfortunately hampered Matt’s playing time after he made his debut for the Cornish Pirates at the start of the 2013-14 season, however, recovering to full fitness, the 23-year-old has made 22 appearances for the club during this campaign, to take his overall games tally to 82.

Wing Alex, aged 25, is a former Ireland Under-20s and England Students player, who signed for the Cornish Pirates as a Player Development Foundation (PDF) member in 2015.

He was educated at Lord Wandsworth College in Hampshire, and then enjoyed a first taste of club rugby with Camberley RFC, before choosing to study for a degree at Hartpury College.

He would then represent them, playing in the National Leagues and the BUCS League.

Also a gifted sevens performer in the past, where his bullet-like pace was an attribute, during his three seasons with the Pirates, Alex has to date made 71 appearances and scored 35 tries.
