Player ratings - Lions vs Chiefs
  1. Joe Marler 7/10

Marler was one third of a seriously impressive front row. The big man executed a world-class scrum display, the only negative thing Marler did was a late dangerous tackle that earned him a yellow card.

  1. Rory Best 6/10

Best was solid around the park offering himself up as an attacking option with a total of 8 carries, however his line out throws were at times questionable and not for the first time on this tour.

  1. Dan Cole 8/10

Cole was class today, he made 8 tackles and his work at the breakdown was phenomenal, Cole along with the rest of the front row played the full 80 which is a difficult task for any prop.

  1. Iain Henderson 7/10

Henderson was a tackling machine today with a total of 12 successful tackles. He did well at the set piece and managed to disrupt the Chiefs line out.

  1. Courtney Lawes 8/10

Lawes completed a class tight five performance working hard in attack with a total of 9 carries. Lawes did have to go off for a HIA, his second of the tour, thankfully he was brought back on and looked to be fine.

  1. James Haskell 7/10

Similarly to Henderson Haskell seemed to never stop tackling with a total of 14 tackles. His work at the breakdown was unrivalled with some massive clear outs, this was the best performance we’ve seen from Haskell in a long time.

  1. Justin Tipuric 6/10

Tipurics defensive performance was fantastic registering a total of 14 tackles, however going forward Tipuric wasn’t as involved as he should have been with only 5 carries to his name.

  1. CJ Stander 7/10

Stander was a beast today and brought some real physicality to the game. He was involved in two choke tackles and helped shut down the Chiefs attack on numerous occasions.

  1. Greig Laidlaw 6/10

Laidlaw was solid with a number of decent box kicks and managed to 1 clean break. Laidlaw did what he had to do but never set the game alight like we’ve seen with the likes of Webb and Murry.

  1. Dan Biggar 8/10

Biggar really stood up today and ran the game exactly how he wanted to. His clearance kicks gained huge ground and he had a 100% kick success rate from the tee.

  1. Elliot Daly 7/10

Daly looked really sharp today and was an absolute live wire on the ball; he was taken off early, which might mean he’ll be involved this Saturday.

  1. Robbie Henshaw 6/10

Henshaw was solid in the middle playing his usual direct and hard game. Chiefs defended well against him, as he looked rather one-dimensional.

  1. Jared Payne 7/10

Payne was good and managed to get himself a try, he looked sharp in attack but with so much talent in the centre its extremely unlikely we’ll see him in a test game.

  1. Jack Nowell 9/10

Nowell was exceptional today and his efforts earned him the man of the match award. He scored two tries showing exceptional feet for one and great vision for the other, Nowell is a man really putting his hand up for a Lions test jersey.

  1. Liam Williams 8/10

Williams was really exciting today and was the best we’ve seen on him whilst on tour. Going forward he seemed to beat defenders with ease and had a tackle success rate of 100%, great to see from a man who hasn’t had the best start to the tour.
