Pool allocation draw for RWC 2019 set for May 2017
World Rugby has confirmed that the pool allocation draw will take place
in May 2017 in Japan with the World Rugby Rankings again being used to
place teams into bands for the draw.
Chairman Bernard Lapasset said: "The pool allocation draw is an important milestone in the run-in to any Rugby World Cup and it really helps to build excitement and momentum. With the identity of 12 teams already known, it will be of huge interest to players and fans to know which sides will be in their pool for what will be a game-changing tournament in Japan."
The exact date of the draw is not yet known but it will happen before the start of the June tests to allow all teams the opportunity to make their move up the rankings in the next year in order to secure a better banding at the tournament.
There are eight remaining places still up for grabs with 12 teams having already qualified by virtue of finishing in the top three of their respective pools at RWC 2015. These teams are Argentina, Australia, England, France, Georgia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Scotland, South Africa and Wales.
